Title
Herman Miskelly
Description
Herman was born in Germany to an Army family, settling in Huntsville in 1974. He studied for a mechanical engineering degree from UAH, then went to work for Thiokol, beginning as a drafter. He completed his degree in 1981, then returned to Thiokol as an ignitions system group engineer for 5-6 years. He enjoyed the proposal development process, and opted to transition to the ballistics design group, staying for approximately 7 years. He completed his tenure by leading the motor design group until the Huntsville division was closed. He continued to work in the field at Raytheon, then quickly transitioned to proposal and management at Atlantic Research, eventually moving to Virginia. He contrasts his later experiences to the success found at Thiokol, and reflects on studies in statistics and further consultation work.
