Description

Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Harold (Hal) Ernest III speaks on his military career. His career began with his completion of the Reserve Officers Training Course (ROTC) at the University of Tennessee in 1983. He completed his initial officer training at Redstone Arsenal and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii from 1984-1987. He then took command of a company in Germany from 1987 -1990 which includes the fall of the Berlin wall. He then deployed in May 1990 to the Middle East as part of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After his deployment he completed advanced schooling at Texas Tech and was assigned to the Program Executive Office for Armored Systems Modernization from 1993-1996. He went on to support the Army Testing and Evaluation Command and returned to Redstone Arsenal to facilitate the fielding of the M270A1 Multiple Launch Rocket System. He transitioned to an instructor position at the Defense Acquisition University Hunstville regional site in 2002 and retired from that position in 2024.
