Title

Dr. Dale Hutchins

Description

Dr. Hutchins grew up in Huntsville. He studied chemistry, and eventually joined Thiokol, working on polymer research (especially liner adhesives) and various other responsibilities. In 1989 he became a section chief (continuing until 1992), and in the division's final years he participated in the space operations program supporting the Space Shuttle project. After leaving Thiokol, he continued to work as a polymer chemist at 3M. He speaks at length about his experience on the plant's closure, including the dificulties of downsizing in his section, and recovering a notable piece of lab equipment at a company auction. He also reflects on notable coworkers at the company.
