LAGEOS Laser Ranging Contributions to Geodynamics, Geodesy, and Orbital Dynamics, 1993

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 40
Abstract

During the period between Lageos launch through completion of the Crustal Dynamics Project at the end of 1991, the satellite ranging technique has evolved into one of the fundamental geophysical and geodetic measurement techniques.

A Numerical Solution for LAGEOS Thermal Thrust: The Rapid-Spin Case, 1997

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 41
Abstract

We report the results of detailed numerical calculations of the thrust on the rapidly spinning LAGEOS spacecraft. The thrust results from anisotopic emission of thermal radiation from the surface. LAGEOS is a good test for such calculations because of its relatively simple structure and because precise orbit determination based on laser ranging give observed thrust effects of comparison.

Test of General Relativity and Measurement of the Lense-Thirring Effect with Two Earth Satellites, 1998-03-27

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 42
Abstract

The Lense-Therring effect, a tiny perturbation of teh orbit of a particle caused by the spin of the attracting body, was accurately measured with the use of the data of two laser-ranged satellites, LAGEOS and LAGEOS II, and the earth gravitational model EGM-96. The parameter mu which measures the strength of teh Lense-Therring effect was found to be 1.1 plus or minus 0.2; general relativity predicts mu = 1.

Earth Scale defined by Modern Satellite Ranging Observations, 1999-05-15

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 43
Abstract

Recent advances in Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) allow us to determine an improved value of the geocentric gravitational coefficient (GM) of 398600.4419+or-.0002 km (cubed)/sec (sq)(one sigma). This value is based on recent SLR observations of teh LAGEOS I satellite; general relativity predicts mu = 1.
