Biographical / Historical

Margaret Watts Rieder (February 27, 1920 to May 23, 2017) was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She attended public schools in Huntsville, earning herself a scholarship; she attended Samford University first, but completed her college education at the University of Oregon. In 1964, Rieder began working for the law firm her father founded, and she stayed on for many years.

Rieder supported efforts to preserve Huntsville’s distinguishing historical traits.

The library attempts to provide a basic level of preservation and access for all collections as they are acquired and does more extensive processing of higher priority collections as time and resources permit.
