Biographical / Historical

Founded in 1961, the John C. Stennis Space Center (also known as the SSC) is a NASA rocket testing facility located in Hancock County, Mississippi. While not a proper military installation, the SSC has many tenant operations, the largest being run by the U.S. Navy.

Over the years, the SSC has proven invaluable to the United States' ventures into space, including the Apollo program; the various facilities of the SSC have been used to test the first and second stages of Saturn V rockets and flight certify Space Shuttle Main Engines.

More details about the John C. Stennis Space Center may be found here.

Processing Information

Collections are processed to a variety of levels, depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived research value, the availability of staff, and competing priorities. The library attempts to provide a basic level of preservation and access for all collections as they are acquired and does more extensive processing of higher priority collections as time and resources permit.
