The Rolls-Royce Tyne (Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust Historical Series #24), 1997, 2000
Scope and Contents
Document Type: Book (Historical Study).
Purpose: Informational.
Authority: Author Expertise.
Series: Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust Historical Series #24.
NB: The Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust and the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation are closely related. From "Rolls-Royce: The Pursuit of Excellence" (1984): "Both organisations share the history of the early days and work closely in harmony. This Historical Series of books was started by the Trust and it is intended that a series shall follow, produced by both organisations in the same format, thus building up an embracing library of true Rolls-Royce history."
Scope: Historical study of the Rolls-Royce Tyne jet engine, written by Lionel Haworth, a 24 year veteran of Rolls-Royce who helped design the first RR jet engines and was later Executive Vice-President.
Contents (from the Editor's Notes): "For the last 25-plus years, the RB211 and its derivatives have dominated activities at Rolls-Royce, Derby. Having joined the company in this era the editor has found the story outlined in this volume an intriguing insight into the design and development problems of an earlier period when gas turbine engines were only approaching their teenage years. That the Tyne is still in service is a tribute to Rolls-Royce and the design team led by Lionel Haworth."
