Format: stapled booklet, 9”x12” (108 total pages not including covers; 16 pages in this section). Includes black & white photographs, drawings and charts. Staples removed.

General

Publication Data: Published and printed in November 1918 by the "War Department, Bureau of Aircraft Production, Airplane Engineering Division, Experimental Department" at McCook Field, Dayton, Ohio.

Note: This was a controlled item, marked "CONFIDENTIAL" in red ink on the cover. Also on the front cover in red: "The Registered Nimber of this book is:" with "1572" stamped in red ink. On the first page is the following: "IMPORTANT! This book is a CONFIDENTIAL publication for the use of the Army and Navy and authorized civilians in the service of the United States Government. It contains information of military importance, NONE of which may be copied, printed, or published under any conditions.

Attention is called to Paragraph 4, Chapter 176 (Page 407), Compilation of Orders of the War Department, which reads as follows:

"Documents or maps classed as 'Secret' or 'Confidential' will not be referred to in any catalogue or publication which is not itself a document marked 'Secret' or 'Confidential,' as the case may be. An officer or soldier who communicates information contained in a document or map marked 'Secret' or 'Confidential,' or 'For official use only' will, at the same time inform the person or persons to whom he communicates the information that it is 'Secret' or 'Confidential' or 'For official use only, as the case may be. The only legitimate use an officer or soldier may make of documents or information of which he becomes possessed in his official capacity is for the furtherance of the public service in the performance of his duty. Publishing official documents or information, or using them for personal controversy, or for any private purpose without due authority, will be treated as breach of official trust, and may be punished under the Articles of War, or under Section 1, Title 1, of the espionage act approved June 15, 1917 (Bulletin No. 43, War Department, 1917)."

This book is the property of the Airplane Engineering Division, Experimental Department, McCook Field, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A, and must be returned to this department upon request."
