Sub-series IV.B: Aircraft Engine Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul
Scope and Contents
The AEHS collection includes material donated by AEHS Members to the Society and later to the UAH Archives and Special Collections. This includes thousands of published and manuscript documents, drawings, charts, 16mm film and 35mm film clips, aviation sounds, and emphemera. The collection as includes publications and documents donated by non-AEHS donors such as George Martin and Saverio Morea.
The AEHS collection includes subjects on aviation training, aircraft research and design publications, aircraft component service manuals, aircraft operating manuals, aircraft engines, reference books, standards and publications.
Series Descriptions:
Note: Each series includes a sub-series for related published materials housed in the UAH Special Collections shelves and cataloged in the UAH Library catalog.
Series I contains materials that are focused on research, development, testing and evaluation of aircraft and related powerplants and military equipment. Sub-series D contains broader technical works focused on aeronautical, aerospace & automotive engineering subjects, as well as general engineering works.
Materials focused on aircraft design & construction and the aircraft industry are in Series II. Similar materials related to aircraft engines/poweplants are in Series III. The audiences for these materials are primarily those who are already in aviation and/or somewhat knowledgeable on the topics.
Technical materials related to the Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) of aircraft and aircraft powerplants are in Series 4. This often includes detailed technical manuals and drawings.
Series V includes materials concerning the education & training of commercial, military and general aviation aircrew, mechanics and ground crews, and other aviation-related personnel. Such material includes textbooks, technical works whose primary goal is the education or training of personnel (whether student or interested public), training course materials (student and instructor), training films, etc. Audiences can include neophytes, those seeking more knowledge, and the interested public.
Material related to aviation operations, both commercial & military, are in Series VI. This includes flight manuals (used by pilots) and engine operations manuals and data (used by flight engineers and pilots in more automated cockpits). It also includes other aviation materials related to long-range flight, aerial navigation, weather, airports, etc.
Those items in the collection related to aviation organizations (military and commercial) & aviation history are in Series VII.
Series VIII covers miscellaneous aviation & aeronautics materials including images, recorded sounds and aviation ephemera. Materials related to the business of aviation & Aviation sports are included in this series, as are the small amount of collection materials related to space and missiles.
