Abstract

"SUBJECT: A careful analysis, by a noted oil economist, of reasons why he believes any attempt to apply a "cost of service" yardstick to natural gas production and prices cannot succeed. After stating that competition in a free market is the best price determinant, but that this power has been given instead to the Federal Power Commission, the author discusses the Harris-O'Hara bills, now pending in Congress. These bills, he feels, can provide a fairly satisfactory method of determining reasonable natural gas prices at the wellhead."
