Abstract
From the Abstract:
"The overall objective of the NASA Solid Propulsion Integrity Program (SPIP) is to improve the reliability of United States (U.S.) built Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs). The Bondline technology program has developed scientific tools and engineering methods which are supported by a Bondline Information System (BIS) database. These tools and methods enable the SRM industry to more accurately assess bondline strength and applied stress. This has allowed for margin predictions to be done well enough in Bondline Analog Motors (BAMs) to alter materials and process specifications to achieve the predicted bondline failure. A Team consisting of Athena Engineering, Aerojet Propulsion Division (APD), ANATECH Research Corporation (ANA), Atlantic Research Corporation (ARC), United Technologies Chemical Systems Division (CSD), Hercules Aerospace Corporation (HAC), Martin Marietta Corporation (MMC), Science Applications Internatinal Corporation (SAIC), Thiokol Corporation (TC), minor subcontractors, Universities, U.S. Army Missile Command (MICOM), U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and NASA has been organized to address engineering subtasks (shortfalls). The program organization and structure has been described in previous overview papers 1,2,3."
