Im Tal einen kleinen Bach,
Am, Bach ein kleines Dorf,
Im Dorf einkleines Schulhaus,
Und in dem Schulhaus wohnt das Gluck!
GroBvater Werner (23.-27.August 1912."
Translation:
I found a small valley,
In the valley a small stream,
At the brook a small village,
In the village a small schoolhouse,
And happiness lives in the schoolhouse!
Language of Materials
By Tante Mathilde (Aunt Mathilde):
Wehnachten bis Neujahr 1911-1912
Reizend in des Taubertales Grunde
Niederrimbach liegt am End der Welt.
Da konnts wohl geschehen,
DaB nach endlos langer Fahrt
Man spät zur Nacht
Bei Sturm und Regen,
Wohlbehalten in der Kutsche,
Dorten landet.
Doch der Hausfrau Gastlichkeit
Des Herren Wurde,
Lassen bald der Reise Fahr vergessen,
Laden ein zum Bleiben.
Junge Leut zumal
Sie nehmen an dem Tun
Der "Alteren", Wohlerfahrenen".
Gerne sich ein Beispiel.
Gehn und tun daselbe.
Translation:
Christmas to New Years 1911-1912
Charming at the bottom of the Tauber Valley
Niederrimbach is at the end of the world.
It could well happen,
That after an endless journey
Man late at night
In storm and rain,
Safe in the carriage,
There lands.
But the housewife's hospitality
Of the Lord,
Let the journey soon be forgotten,
Invite you to stay.
Especially young people
You take part in the action
The "older, well-experienced."
Happy to set an example.
Go and do the same.
Language of Materials
The last poem in the book goes as follows:
"Zu Mutters Geburtstag 1914 von Vater
Liebes Paule!
Ach, ich eile,
Dir von Herzen Gluck zu wunschen
Doch zur Freude,
(Sist mir leide)
WeiB ich Dir nichts mitzubringen.
Zwar es gabe
Manch Gerate,
Manches schone Ding zu kaufen.
Doch "man hats nicht".
Sist die alt Gschicht,
Beutel kann es nicht erlauben.
Nur ein kleines,
Hubsches, feines
Blumenvaslein sollst Du haben,
Und in diesem
Von den Wiesen
Einen frischen MargritstrauB."
Translation:
For mother's birthday in 1914 from father
Dear Paule!
Ah, I hurry
I sincerely wish you luck
But for joy
(I'm sorry)
I don't know what to bring you.
Although there was
some devices
Some nice things to buy.
But "you don't have it".
Is the old story
Bag can't allow it.
Just a small,
Pretty, fine
You shall have vases of flowers,
And in this one,
From the meadows
A fresh MargritstrauB.
