Abstract
The document states: "WE hereby command you to take the body of Armstead, a slave if to be found in your county, and him safely keep, so that you ahve his body before the Judge of the next Cicuit Court of Madison County, to be held at the Court-House in the Town of Huntsville, on the last Monday in February next, to answer the State of Alabama, upon a charge of Murder--whereof he stands indicted by the Grand Jurors of said Court, at the Term thereof held on the last Monday in August in the year of our Lord wighteen hundred and 50--and have you then and there this writ, with your return thereon endorsed. Witness, JOHN B. ELDRIDGE, Clerk of said Cicuit Court of Madison County, at Office, this 17th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and 50 and in the 75th year of American Independence. Issued the 17th day of Sept. 1850 TISTE: John B. Eldridge Clerk, C.C." On the back of the middle fold, there is a note from a sheriff, James Thomoss, which says, "Not found in my county, 22nd February 1851."
