Abstract

There is a description of the photo at the bottom of the page: "Nearing the end of its maiden mission, Columbia glides unpowered over California desert on approach to Edward Air Force Base. On April 14, 1981, Columbia became the first spacecraft to return to earth as a winged vehicle."
