Abstract

There is a description of this photo on the back: "Apollo 16 Rover On Moon--The Lunar Roving Vehicle gets a workout by Astronaut John W. Young in the "Grand Prix" run during the third Apollo 16 extravehicular activity (EVA-3) at the Descartes landing site. The LRV reached a top speed of 10 kilometers (6.2 statute miles) per hour during the "Grand Prix" run. On another occasion while going downhill the Rover reached a maximum speed of 17 kilometers (10.56 statute miles) per hour. This view is a frame from motion picture film exposed by a 16mm Maurer camera held by Astronaut Charles M. Duke, Jr., lunar module pilot."
