Biographical / Historical
The Americans discovered the Mittelwerk on the afternoon of April 11, 1945. They immediately expelled the German civilians who had taken refuge there at the time of the bombing of Nordhausen by the Allied air force a week earlier. (National Archives, Washington D. C.)
