Biographical / Historical

This portrait by Maurice de La Pintiére of Christian Beham, recalls the SS execution of several prominent German political prisoners held in captivity, often since 1933. These executions took place a few weeks before the end of the war. Beham, a prominent communist leader, was locked up in the camp prison in January 1945 and murdered on April 4, the day of the evacuation of the camp, along with six other German “reds.”
