Biographical / Historical
Soldiers of the 3rd U.S. armored division experience a horrifying shock when they discover the camp in the Boelcke Barracks at Nordhausen on April 11, 1945, finding a handful of surviving prisoners intermingled with hundreds of corpses. The latter are buried in communal graves by men from Nordhausen commandeered by the Americans. (All the photos are from the National Archives, Washington D. C.)
