Biographical / Historical

From time to time, the SS ordered a “disinfection” of the prisoners working in the tunnel. For bodies already in a weak condition in the middle of winter, this was a particularly dreaded ordeal. A pen-and-ink drawing by Maurice de La Pintiére on his return to France in 1945. (Private collection)
