Biographical / Historical

In March 1944, the French prisoner Guy Boisot captured the arresting image of the final excavation work for the factory tunnels. Prisoners break the rock with a pneumatic drill, while others clear away the blocks with the aid of a mining cart. In the background, the silhouette of a Kapo (fellow prisoner serving as a camp guard), with a night stick in his hand. (Private collection)
