General
The American ORT Federation was a division of the World ORT Organization. The mission of ORT was "Devoted to the Creation of a New Occupational Existence for Refugees and the Masses of European Jews through Trade Schools, Farm Colonies, and Industrial Workshops." The vocational training was to prepare the refugee Jews for resettlement in Palestine, the U.S. or elsewhere so that they could become self supporting individuals.
