General
In 2009, Margaret Anne Goldsmith made a contribution to the hospital foundation that resulted in the main information desk in the lobby of the hospital being named in memory of Bettie Goldsmith and in honor of Jewell Goldsmith (Bettie's granddaughter-in-law). The memorial to Bettie Goldsmith was for her efforts to organize a United Charities, the group that lobbied the City Council to establish Huntsville's first hospital and for her volunteer work on the Hospital Board of Control until her death in 1928. Jewell Goldsmith received the honor as a result of being a volunteer at Huntsville Hospital for over fifty years during which time she received a number of awards for her volunteerism. The hospital provided a ceremony on the occasion of the unveiling of the plaque that was attended by Jewell's family members, friends, and member of Temple B'nai Sholom.
