General
Photograph depicts Margaret Anne Goldsmith and three members of the Huntsville High School football team that played in the first game at Goldsmith-Schiffman Field on October 4, 1934. In the background is the rock wall constructed around the field by the CCC at the time that the field was developed. Above the heads of the four is the historic plaque that was placed on the wall at a ceremony in 2000, made possible by the Huntsville School Board. The field was given in memory of Bettie Schiffman and Betty Goldsmith by Annie and Lawrence B. Goldsmith, Sr., Elsie and Bob Schiffman, and Oscar Goldsmith (Isaac Schiffman had predeceased his wife). The gift of this land to the city for a ball field was the first major act of philanthropy by the Goldsmith and Schiffman families for the benefit of Huntsville.
