General
Additional information from census and other records. Moved to Huntsville in 1855. Member of City Council 1877-1878. Treasureer of city government for a number of years. Served as Shamas of the Congregation during High Holidays in 1876. Was in business with Henry Lowenthal at the time of his death, "Hernstein and Lowenthal." In 1870 it was stated that he owned real estate valued at $20,000 and a personal estate of $1,500.
