General

"During 1985 I corresponded with Charles Hollander of Jersey City, NJ. Charles is a distant relative through my Herstein branch. He found me through Ralph Lederer with whom I had been corresponding regarding my Schiffman relatives. Charles had extensive information on the Hersteins, much of which had been recorded from oral history given by Amelia Herstein Hollander, daughter of Nathan Herstein, Robert Herstein's half brother. Also information was obtained from census records, and Charles' study of cemetery and archival records in Baltimore and Battenfeld, Hesse, Germany. A synopsis of this information follows."
