General

Text on document: Morris Bernstein immigrated from Germany to America in the 1840s. He came to Huntsville, met and married Henrietta Newman 1852. As a boy Morris had learned watch-making in Switzerland. Prior to 1859 Morris purchased a building on the southside of the square where he established a jewelry store and watch repair shop. His wife, Henrietta operated a ladies' notions and accessories store on the southside of the square. Their three daughters were born on the second floor of the watch repair shop where the family had their living quarters. Morris acquired real estate prior to the Civil War and after Reconstruction.
