Historical Note: The Signal Corps of the United States Army was created in 1863. In 1962 the name was changed to United States Army Electronics Command. A Signal officer of the Army was authorized by act of June 20, 1860; Signal Corps organized under act of Mar. 3, 1863; by joint resolution 12 of Feb. 9, 1870 work of the Signal Corps was extended to embrace the taking of meteorological observations; by act Oct. 1, 1890, Weather Bureau was created and meteorological work of the Signal office was transferred thereto.
